Job Description

Our client is a global leader in the design, manufacturing, and sales of inspection equipment (Check weighing, X-Ray, and Metal Detectors) primarily targeted to the food (meat, cheese, bakery) industry. The headquarters and main manufacturing plant are based in North America, with manufacturing subsidiaries in Brazil, New Zealand, and the UK (from where it has a remit for sales into EMEIA).

The company is otherwise represented globally by a successful network of certified partner companies and agents.

To support its long term, ambitious growth plans our client is now moving to establish a direct presence in the German market.

The company has been selling into Germany through a third party for many years and therefore the brand is established. However, it is now looking to appoint an accomplished, ambitious, and driven

Technical Sales Manager – Germany

who will be based in Germany to set in motion the company’s own direct sales strategy. The successful candidate will report to the Export Sales Manager, based in the UK.

Scope of role

The post holder will be required to identify contacts and approach prospect companies, promote, and sell the complete company product portfolio, conduct customer visits, review, and offer technical solutions to projects and provide exhibition support. This business development role in the initial stages will be supported with an activity remit, lead generation and telemarking campaign as well as full product training.

NB: Once the candidate has successfully generated sales opportunities there is genuine scope for the role to develop into that of a Country Manager, with a remit to build a sales and service team.

Person

  • The ideal candidate should have engineering/technical qualifications coupled with proven experience of selling processing/packaging machinery into the food industry.
  • Experience in end of line, weighing or inspection equipment would be particularly advantageous.
  • Proven experience in generating sales and achieving sales growth with strong commercial acumen.
  • Proven self-starter, with the ability to work independently.
  • A decision-maker and independent thinker with the ability to analyse and solve business-related issues.
  • Able to positively influence and build effective relationships.
  • Fully customer focussed.
  • A personable and direct approach with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Flexibility, initiative, and the ability to respond well to change and pressure.
  • Excellent time management coupled with strong organisation skills.
  • Management qualities.
  • Good English language skills.
  • Fully versed in MS Office, Excel, and CRM.
  • Willing to travel and take an active role at exhibitions.

 

Job responsibilities

  • Identification and prioritisation of new sales opportunities with OEMs and Blue-Chip accounts working at a strategic level.
  • Handle sales enquiries. Lead follow up.
  • Make initial contact with prospect companies through mail, phone/video calls and customer visit presentations.
  • Create application specifications and submit full sales proposals.
  • Establish solid working relationships with new accounts.
  • Provide effective customer care through prompt and professional handling of enquiries.
  • Promote effective Forecasting, preparing, and working to budgets, meet/exceed financial targets.
  • Actively contribute to and promote sales strategy.
  • Work with colleagues to develop relevant support materials/information.
  • Product alignment to satisfy enquiries/requirements.
  • Regular and consistent use of CRM system to provide regular reporting and update of activity.
  • Correct technical solutions offered.
  • Competitor awareness and activity feedback.
  • Would be required to travel within Germany, including overnight stays if necessary. Should also be willing to travel to the UK. This may entail longer visits initially for product training and periodic shorter visits for ongoing training and sales meetings.
